A little guidance

Setup questions, privacy questions, or something not working as expected?

Good questions.
Straight answers.

What does ReelShield help block?

You can choose two filters for each protected app: Explicit nudity, and Suggestive & dating content. These filters help hide selected unwanted visual content; they do not guarantee that everything unwanted will be caught.

Why does ReelShield need Accessibility access?

With your agreement and Android’s authorization, Accessibility lets ReelShield detect the selected foreground app, capture visible screen content for on-device analysis, and place a shield over unwanted content. ReelShield does not tap controls, type messages or request passwords. You can decline access or turn it off in Android Settings.

How do I enable screen protection?

Follow the setup steps in ReelShield, then open Android Accessibility settings when prompted. On Samsung, look under Installed apps for ReelShield and enable it yourself. Labels can vary by Android version. Return to ReelShield so it can check the permission and continue setup.

Android says restricted settings are blocked. What now?

For some sideloaded installations, Android requires an additional approval. Only if Android shows this restriction, open ReelShield’s app-info page in Android Settings and use the three-dot menu to allow restricted settings, if offered. Then return to Accessibility settings. ReelShield cannot grant this approval for you.

Is my screen uploaded or saved?

No. Screen images and recognized text are processed briefly on your device and are not saved or uploaded by ReelShield. No account is required. Basic protection statistics and preferences are stored locally. Read the Privacy Policy for details about local technical metadata.

Why was normal content hidden?

Filtering can make mistakes. Ordinary images may sometimes look similar to unwanted content to the protection engine. You can pause protection or adjust which filters are enabled for an app. There is no screenshot-reporting or automatic training feature in v1.

Why did unwanted content pass?

ReelShield is a helpful layer, not a guarantee. Some images may be missed, and some app surfaces cannot be captured or analyzed. A filter that is disabled for an app will not analyze that content.

Which apps and devices work?

ReelShield is designed for Android 14 or later on supported ARM64 devices. Initial device testing has been limited to the Samsung SM-A366B. Compatibility depends on Android and the selected app; secure or protected surfaces may not be available for analysis. Universal app or device compatibility is not promised.

Why does protection stop outside my selected apps?

That is intentional. Screen analysis runs only while Protection is on and a selected protected app is in the foreground with an enabled filter. It stays idle on the home screen and in unprotected apps.

How do I pause protection?

Use Pause protection in ReelShield and choose 5, 15 or 30 minutes, or pause until you turn it back on. Android may delay a timed resume while the device is sleeping. You can also turn Protection off.

How do I disable Accessibility access?

Open Android Settings, go to Accessibility, find ReelShield among the installed services or apps, and turn it off. The exact labels vary by device. This disables ReelShield’s screen-protection capability.

How do I delete activity history?

In ReelShield Settings, choose Clear activity data. This deletes local activity and statistics without resetting your protection settings. It does not delete the processing libraries’ local setup metadata. Uninstalling removes app-private data.
